This is your guide to African Airlines

This is where you find Airlines of Africa and about all the African Airlines.

Unlike the other pages in the Travelguide, the following site is all about African Airlines, but includes the Schedule Airlines in Africa.

Schedule Airlines have a regular service throughout the whole year and in order to find more information for the service you require it means accessing the web sites of the various airlines mentioned below.

Algeria

  • Air Algeria. The official airline site is in French. There are several domestic routes as well as flights to France, Britain, Turkey, Syria, Libya, Italy, and Morocco.

Angola

  • TAAG is the Angolan National Airline. There are several domestic routes as well as flights to Johannesburg, Accra, Windhoek, Harare, Lisbon and Paris.

Botswana

  • Air Botswana is the national airline of Botswana and is based in Gaborone. It serves the stunning tourist attractions of Maun and Kasane with international flights to Johannesburg and Harare. The carrier operates a combination of ATR 42 and BA 146 jetliners.

Burkina Faso

  • Air Burkina flies throughout West Africa and has bi-weekly flights to Paris.

Cape Verde

  • TACV The national airline of Cape Verde offers weekly direct flights to Boston (US) for reasonable prices. They also fly to South America and Europe.

Congo

  • Congo Express. State-owned South African domestic and regional carrier SA Express has revealed that it will start up an airline to operate domestic flights in the Democratic Republic of Congo to meet increased passenger demand using Bombardier CRJ200s.

Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

  • Air Ivories is the national airline and has a good network of flights within West Africa.

Djibouti

  • Daallo Airlines connects the ‘Horn of Africa’ to the world. It operates twice weekly from Dubai, UAE to Djibouti with onward connections to Hargeisa and Mogadishu in Somalia. It also operates from Djibouti to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Its fleet consists of Boeing 737. Its executive offices are based in Dubai, UAE.

Egypt

  • Egypt Air is the country's national airline and one of Africa's largest airlines. Egypt air offers domestic services as well as flights to Europe, the Middle East, India, Thailand and several African destinations including Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Johannesburg.



Ethiopia

  • Ethiopian Airlines has one of the most extensive networks in Africa (20 countries) and they also fly to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US (Washington DC).

Gabon

  • Gabon Airlines has recently been launched with long distance flights to Paris and Marseilles in Europe from Libreville and south to Johannesburg in South Africa. For local services go to the new web site.

The Gambia

  • Afrinat International Airline offers regional services to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and the Gambia.

Guinea

  • Afrinat International Airline offers regional services to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and the Gambia.

Kenya

  • Kenya Airways Rapidly evolving into a world class carrier, Kenya Airways, with its fleet of new long-range B777 aircraft, connects London, Paris and Amsterdam to Nairobi with 24 non-stop flights per week. It offers excellent, immediate connections to such destinations as Mombasa, Dar Es Salaam, Seychelles, Lusaka, Entebbe, Kigali, Kisumu, Bujumbura, Kinshasa and Istanbul among many others.

  • Air Kenya flies domestic routes within Kenya and one to Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). Based in Nairobi out of Wilson airport.

Libya

  • Libyan Arab Airlines is Libya's national carrier.

    As a consequence of the Libyan civil war and the resulting no-fly zone over the country enforced by NATO in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, all flight operations with Libyan Airlines were terminated on 17 March 2011

Madagascar

  • Air Madagascar is Madagascar's national airline. Headquartered in Antananarivo, capital of the world’s fourth largest island nation, MD flies long-range B767’s on its international routes to Paris, Marseilles and Bangkok. It operates B737s to regional destinations such as Nairobi, Johannesburg, Mauritius, Moroni and Reunion Island. The carrier also has an extensive domestic network.

Malawi

  • Air Malawi - Africa’s friendly airline is the national carrier of the Republic of Malawi. The airline is headquartered in Blantyre, Malawi and its operational hub is Lilongwe, Malawi.

    The airline currently flies to Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Harare, Lusaka and domestic flights between Lilongwe and Blantyre twice a day. The QM Mission is “to become the preferred airline in every segment of the market by offering unparalleled services to the customer.”

Mali

  • Afrinat International Airline offers regional services to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and the Gambia.

Mauritius

  • Air Mauritius maintains a stunning international route network of services to and from Port Louis, the capital. In Europe there is service from London-LHR, Paris-CDG, Geneva-GVA, Zurich-ZRH, Frankfurt-FRA, Munich-MUC and Milan-MXP with immediate connections from their transatlantic partners.

    In Asia Pacific region there is service from Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. In Africa the network includes Nairobi, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Reunion and Antanarivo. With superior service on board, the Airbus A340 aircraft speed travellers to and from fabulous Mauritius.

Morocco

  • Royal Air Maroc flies to many destinations in Europe and also has a direct flight to the New York. Most of their regional flights operate in Northern and Western Africa.

Mozambique

  • LAM is Mozambique's national airline. The web site is in Portuguese but it's easy enough to book flights since the destination names are universal. International destinations include Dar es Salaam, Durban, Harare and Lisbon. They have a comprehensive domestic route which is good considering the roads in Mozambique are quite poor and it's a big country.

Namibia

  • Air Namibia flies to several international destinations including London and Frankfurt. Regionally the airline doesn't venture north of Zimbabwe but you can get good connections to Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Luanda. I've flown them a few times and they're excellent.

Nigeria

  • Arik Air International Ltd is the overseas corporate headquarters of Arik Air in Lagos, Nigeria, set up to develop the worldwide routes and realized the vision of founder Sir Arumemi-Ikhide to offer a truly global airline with world class standards.

    In December 2008, they successfully launched the initial intercontinental operation from Lagos to London Heathrow. They currently fly daily from London Heathrow Terminal 4 with a newly acquired Airbus A340-500, which offers the highest degree of operational flexibility and unmatched passenger comfort.

    Arik Air’s ambition does not stop with London. They are now taking their world class airline to the rest of the world and have secured the rights to fly to Johannesburg, New York, Houston, Paris, Beijing, and many other international destinations.

  • Air Nigeria a new airline, offers services from Nigeria (Lagos) to Accra, Abuja, Dakar and several domestic cities. Check the web site for new routes coming soon.

Reunion

  • Air Austral is the national carrier for the Reunion Islands. Destinations include France, Belgium, Madagascar, the Seychelles and Johannesburg.

Rwanda

  • Rwandair is Rwanda's national airline and links its capital Kigali to Dar es Salaam, Entebbe, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro and Brussels.

Senegal

  • Senegal Airlinesis the new national airline of the Republic of Senegal, following the demise of Air Senegal International.

    The airline has two Airbus A330s and offers 7 destinations in Western Africa at present.

The Seychelles

  • Air Seychelles the national airline offers flights to Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Singapore, Rome, London and Mauritius.

Sierra Leone

  • Afrinat International Airline offers regional services to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and the Gambia.

Somalia and Somaliland

  • Daallo Airlines connects the ‘Horn of Africa’ to the world. It operates twice weekly from Dubai, UAE to Djibouti with onward connections to Hargeisa and Mogadishu in Somalia. South Africa

  • South African Airlines is Southern Africa's biggest airline with routes to Asia, South America, North America, Europe and Australia. Their regional network extends throughout Southern, Western and East Africa.

  • South African Express has just rebranded itself as SA Express and introduced a revised livery to reflect the changes. The first aircraft to be painted in this new livery was Bombardier CRJ700 ZS-NLT.

  • Airlink offers mainly domestic flights within South Africa but is starting to branch out regionally as well. They offer flights to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Madagascar. Airlink has replaced Swaziland's national airline.

  • FedairWith a daily shuttle service departing from Johannesburg, Durban and Nelspruit and onward to southern Africa’s premier game reserves, nothing is out of reach.

  • Pelican Air Servicesthe only licensed air carrier to fly scheduled flights direct from / to O.R. Tambo International Airport (JIA) and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) to Inhambane International Airport (INH), as well as direct flights from/to O.R. Tambo International Airport (JIA) and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) to Vilanculos International Airport (VNX), and on behalf of our Mozambican partner ASAS de Mozambique onto the Bazaruto Archipelago Islands saving you time and money.

Sudan

  • Sudan Airways is the country's national airline and has been operating since the 1940's. Their domestic network includes the major towns in Sudan. Service within Africa includes Cairo, Kano, Tripoli, Nairobi, Entebbe, Addis Ababa, and Niamey. They also offer daily flights to the Middle East.

  • BLUE NILE AIRLINES is a new Sudanese carrier and has been established to fly from Khartoum to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and East African destinations. Its aircraft will be leased from Bahrain Air.

Tanzania

  • Air Tanzania is Tanzania's national carrier based in Dar es Salaam. The airline offers regional flights to Johannesburg, Comoros islands, and Entebbe. Domestic flights include Mwanza, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.

  • Precision Air is a domestic airline with a very comprehensive network (which is important in Tanzania since the roads aren't very good) and they also offer flights to Mombasa and Nairobi.

Tunisia

  • Kathargo Airlines is a low-cost airline based in Tunisia which offers flights to various European destinations. The web site is in French.
